After taking a leave of absence from a philosophy graduate program, I bought a one-way ticket to Beijing and began a path of shaping the world rather than simply interpreting it. From being a master’s student to entering working life, and from hands-on action back to the academy, I later completed my doctoral degree. I now work in animal research, advocacy, writing, and publishing. Does all this take time, or reflection?
